Halloween safety is essential for pets' health
Tricks and treats can spell trouble for pets this Halloween, so veterinarians advise keeping pets home because the holiday is a common time for pets to get lost. In addition, candy can contain substances toxic to dogs, such as chocolate or xylitol, an artificial sweetener. Pets should also be kept away from candles, and if owners choose to dress up their pets in costumes, the American Veterinary Medical Association says the costume should not impede the animal from opening its mouth or breathing and hearing normally
